It wasn’t meant to be a Surrey micro wedding, as Sarah and James already had their July 2nd 2021 wedding booked with me. It was nearing Christmas 2020 when Sarah called me devastated about her father’s upsetting prognosis. Sarah wanted her father to walk her down the aisle so they did the only thing they could do during lockdown. They arranged a secret micro wedding.
Sarah and James arranged their micro wedding with the support of St Michael’s fantastic Reverend, Anna.
On a fresh, yet sunny January afternoon, I met Sarah and James, joined by both their parents and siblings.
Sarah arrived with her parents and Sally, her mum, jumped out of the car with her slippers on! Sally politely asked that I wait until she had her shoes on to photograph her. I wish I had thought to do the same. Looked so comfy! Sarah helped her dad out of the car and began helping to straighten his suit jacket. There were smiles all around and I could tell how happy everyone was for Sarah and James to be married. I loved the micro wedding because there was less pressure on time constraints and I was able to take my time photographing Sarah and her dad. When the time came to walk Sarah down the aisle, Paul was beaming with the exact same smile as Sarah. You could tell Sarah took after her dad more.
The ceremony was lovely and both mums gave beautiful readings. There were some gorgeously funny moments like when Sarah and James went to leave before the blessing and Anna had to call them back.
I decided to try (for the first time) shooting and filming the wedding ceremony – check out the short clip here to see.
I photographed their official wedding celebration 2nd July 2021 and it was absolutely wonderful to spend time with their lovely family once again.
Wonderful tributes were paid to Sarah’s dad and there was not a dry eye in the house when his best friend read out Paul’s Father of the Bride speech. I will share images from their official wedding here soon.
